Forecasters recorded 50 degrees of frost in the Yakut settlements Oymyakon and Verkhoyansk, which are considered a cold pole in the north hemisphere, told RIA Novosti on Monday, a representative of the Yakut Department for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring.
According to the agency, on Monday morning in Oymyakon and Verkhoyansk the temperature dropped to a mark of 52-55 degrees. In Ust-Nera air temperature was 44 degrees below zero.
"It was cold and the other northern settlements of Yakutia, where the air temperature very close to the 50-degree mark," — said the representative of the government.
By frost in these settlements canceled classes in schools and kindergartens.
According to weather forecasts, cold hold out at least 3-4 days. In the central regions, including in Yakutsk, much warmer — where the temperature does not drop below 35-40 degrees.
Classes for younger students Yakutsk canceled at -45 degrees, for older students — at minus 50. In Oymyakon and Verkhoyansk children do not go to school, when the temperature drops below 50 degrees.
