Foresters Khakassia found foci of infection shestizubchatym cedar bark beetle (shorthand) in forest areas in the south of Khakassia in the fall of 2011. It was decided to start full and selective sanitary felling of infected trees over an area of 400 hectares. Such large-scale spread of bark beetle in Khakassia was recorded for the first time, the reason, according to experts, was the dry weather, which held for several years. About half of the planned volume of sanitary felling was done when they had to be stopped by public pressure. Local residents believe that together with the patients and healthy trees felled cedar. Supervisors began checking the legality of cutting and Khakassia State Forest Committee asked the Federal Forestry Agency to conduct an examination of the state of pine forests.
"Area of cedar to be sanitary felling in Khakassia, is about 500 hectares," — said in a statement, referring to the inspection report.
According to the State Forest Committee, it's not only the trees infected beetle bark beetle, but also weak and dry out under the influence of pathogenic fungi cedars, are "candidates" on the settlement of stem pests.
"Given the dry weather during the growing period of the current year, that is quite favorable conditions for mass reproduction bark stenographer can be expected in the next few years the spread of outbreaks of this pest," — experts say.
