Fasting is beneficial brain and prolongs life

WASHINGTON, April 2. As you know, our ancestors were not able to eat three times a day. This fact has led to research by Mark Mattson and a group of scientists from the U.S. National Institute. According to Kedem, they decided to find out what kind of health benefits brings starvation.

Diet with infrequent meals tested on animals. The study lasted for decades. It turned out that a reasonable fasting increases life expectancy.

It was also found that as a result of short-term fasting brain cells are able to turn on the gene BDNF, which plays a role in the prevention of Alzheimer's and Huntington's, as well as in mood disorders.

Earlier, British researchers reported that fasting stimulates the production of growth hormone.

Intense physical exercise combined with intermittent fasting (12-24 hours) give a much greater effect than regular meals. Physical activity and the lack of food — these are the conditions in which the human body has evolved over thousands of years, the researchers stressed.
