Twenty people were injured in Brazil in the attack of predatory fish

At least 20 tourists were injured in the attack of fish in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, told the local rescue service.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on one of the rivers in the central part of the state. Cant predatory fish species Chloroscombrus chrysurus attacked a group of swimmers when the water was about a thousand people. As a result, there was a panic, about 20 people were painful bites hands and feet that do not pose a serious threat. Medical care was provided to victims on the ground.

Fishery biologists have determined that the perpetrators of the incident — predators of about 30 centimeters, which have some similarities with piranhas. These fish live in the Atlantic subtropical areas, but they can go for long distances in the mouth of the major rivers. Scientists theorize that the fish could attack people because of a lack of natural food sources.
