Flying to the Sun

NASA started the preparation of a scientific expedition to the Sun. The project, called Solar Probe Plus involves sending a space probe to study the luminaries with the closest distance to the international space program — 6.4 million km

It is assumed that the start of scientific apparatus held not earlier than 2018. U.S. space agency calls the upcoming expedition "unprecedented."

Probe the size of a car will literally dive into the upper layer of the solar atmosphere and thus get the opportunity to study objects and processes are not available to any other spacecraft or instrument.

"BelTA" notes that the experiments selected for implementation in the Solar Probe Plus, aimed at addressing two key questions of solar physics: Why is the outer atmosphere of light is much hotter its visible surface, and that it raises the solar wind that affects Earth and our solar system.

The probe itself decided to equip constructed of composite shield that can withstand temperatures in excess of 1398.8 degrees Celsius, and bursts of hard X-rays. Also, the apparatus provides for making solar cells. They are approaching the red-hot luminary should develop a more and more acute angle so that most of the surface remained in the shadow of the shield, and getting smaller provide electricity at a level sufficient for the operation of the probe.

In 2009, NASA invited researchers to formulate the direction of the work of the Solar Probe Plus. Of the 13 examined five proposals were selected. Expenditure on a preliminary analysis, design and testing are approaching $ 180 million
