In JSC "Machine Building Plant" (Elektrostal, Moscow region, part of the Fuel Company of Rosatom "fuel elements") passed final acceptance test of the first set of fuel assemblies (FA) for the floating power unit (FPU), which is being built at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg.
Fuel loading for use in nuclear power plants is planned, which will be located near the town of Vilyuchinsk.
Fuel company "TVEL" is part of the State Corporation "Rosatom".
The core business is the development, production and sales (including exports) of nuclear fuel and related non-nuclear products.
The structure of "fuel elements" includes the largest Russian companies specializing in the manufacture, supply and scientific and technical support of nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants in Russia, CIS and far abroad.
Fuel company includes enterprises for the production of gas centrifuge separation-sublimation plants and fuel fabrication plants.
"TVEL" fully meets the needs of the nuclear power industry in the Russian nuclear fuel. A total of "fuel elements" fully meets the needs of 76 power reactors in Russia and 15 countries in Europe and Asia (17% of the world market), 30 research reactors in the world.
The structure of the acceptance committee composed of representatives of "fuel elements", the branch of "Rosenergoatom" — "Management of Construction floating nuclear power plant", JSC "OKBM" Afrikantov "FSI" RM RS "RRC" KI ", JSC" minimum wage ", JSC" VNIINM. AA Bochvar ", heads and specialists of the plant.
Acceptance tests were conducted in accordance with a special program and test procedure. In particular, during the manufacturing process was the development of tests to prove its compliance with the scope and requirements laid down in the program. The second stage — the neutron-physical tests — core held in OAO "OKBM" (Nizhny Novgorod). And the ultimate test — hydraulic testing and assembly — were held at the IGC.
Commenting on the event, Executive Director of "fuel elements" Dmitry Krylov said: "Today we hand over the first active zone for the PEB, the second is in the final stages and will be commissioned in September 2011. Subsequently MRZ will produce this type of fuel as necessary to overload. The active area for floating nuclear power plant is a cassette type of fuel, and it is totally innovative design that contains a lot of new technical solutions. "
History of the Project has 6 years old. In 2005, the Deputy Minister of Atomic Energy I. Kamensky was signed terms of reference for the production of fuel for a floating nuclear power plant. After that of "fuel elements" and concern "Rosenergotom" in the equity participation was requested funding and organization development and manufacture of fuel. The development was completed in 2008 and adopted by the Scientific and Technical Council of Rosatom. In 2009 JSC "TVEL" has signed a contract for the supply of 2 head cores for PEB in Kamchatka.
