In St. Petersburg, a monument to the Children of War

In St. Petersburg, the opening and dedication of the monument to "Children of War." The ceremony was attended by the Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko, representatives of the city government and the administration of the Kalinin district of the Legislative Assembly, community organizations and youth groups, school children.

 

The monument "Children of War" is an initiative of the International Association of NGOs blockade hero-city of Leningrad and is located close to Piskaryovsky Memorial Cemetery, at the intersection of Prospect Avenue Unconquered and Menshikov. The author of the project — the sculptor and architect Vladimir Shplet. Funds for the design, manufacture and installation of a monument listed the chairman of the Azerbaijan National-Cultural Autonomy of St. Petersburg Vagif Mamishev.

Georgy Poltavchenko congratulated the veterans of this event, the blockade, all of St. Petersburg. "It is important that the monument appeared in our city. It is dedicated to people who have war deprived childhood, those with their fathers and grandfathers fought and worked for the Great Victory, and after the war, restored the Leningrad and our country, "- said the governor. He expressed confidence that the monument will necessarily come to city residents, children and students: "This is a reminder of their heroic great-grandparents, the heroic Leningrad." Georgy Poltavchenko thanked all those who participated in the creation of the memorial and laid a wreath at the foot of it.
