So what lies on the seabed near the Japanese island of Yonaguni?

"Yonaguni Monument" — a massive underwater formation, found near the Japanese.

Yonaguni Island, the southernmost of the Ryukyu Islands. The origin of this object is the subject of dispute — scientists do not know whether it is a completely natural formation, or has an artificial origin. In appearance the object is similar to architectural structures, and seemed to have a very specific architectural designs reminiscent of something stepped pyramids of ancient Sumer.

Centre underwater finds — stepped subject 42.43 meters and a height of 183 parties to the 150 meters. It looks rectangular building made of rock T-shape. Around the central object were also small "pyramid" with a height of 10 and a width of 2 meters.

Finding has been investigated in detail only 12 years after the discovery, in 1997, when Japanese industrialist Yasuo Watanabe sponsored research expedition. Headed it accidentally learned about the object known antiquities researcher and writer Graham Hancock.

Expedition member Robert Schoch said that he considered miraculous Yonaguni structure — during the dive he found them "not human." He notes that the monolith is composed of sandstone, and the stone has the ability to crack along the planes. Hence the straight lines, sharp angles, the surface in the form of bricks and the like. If we take into account the increased seismic activity area, a large "rastreskivaemost" breed altogether surprising. Yes, and at 90 and 60 degrees to each other, which promotes the formation of strict geometric shapes: rectangular steps, triangles and diamonds. However, he expressed the view that the subject could then be processed by humans.

During the expedition were found some artifacts: the drilled stones coated with symbols, primitive scrapers, bas-relief of some animal, like a bull.

Soon after, a team led by Masaaki Kimura of the University of the Ryukyus, too, visited the underwater discovery. Since then, it has become a popular attraction in divers, despite the strong current in the area. French free-diver Jacques Mayol has written a book about his dive into the mysterious place.

Kimura was a strong advocate of the view that the underwater object is man-made structures. Here is why. For all the similarities rocks Yonaguni, between them have very strong differences. In a limited area very close to each other are completely different types of items. For example: a face with sharp edges, round holes, stepped descent, perfectly straight narrow trench. If the reason was only natural erosion, it was logical to expect the same form in all the piece of rock. On virtually side by side are very different elements, which was a strong argument in favor of their artificial origin.

However, even such a man-made version of the lawyer as Kimura, eventually admitted that the object could not be completely built by people. He now as well, and Schoch, the view that nature has created the workpiece, and then it can process people. The fashion entered term «terraformed», which scientists refer to what the object is. Originally, the term appeared in science fiction to describe the changes that people make to the landscape and climate of the other planets.
But what about the age of Yonaguni.

In the vicinity of the monument under the water found a cave in which there are a number of stalactites. Study on beryllium-10 showed that their education was completed at least 10 thousand years ago, so this is the time when the sea flooded this part of the land and the monument itself, which coincided with estimates of changes in the past scientists sea level. On this basis, the geologists to determine the age of Yonaguni from 10 to 16 thousand years.
