Caspian: the moment of truth is approaching

Interest in the Caspian region of the global centers of power goes out not. This enthusiasm is determined by several factors. The Caspian region is between the crotch with 2 classical centers of impermanence: the Caucasus and Central Asia, a promising area from the standpoint of hydrocarbon production, and most importantly — an important hub of transportation in the direction of Europe.

In the criteria of the persistent economic crisis, the West finds any cheaper methods energoelementov and diversification of supply. An important part of the effort of the West in this direction are the creation of the test criterion for the appearance of profitable economic environment itself through the achievement of certain geopolitical goals, allowing to implement the projects of other ways of laying pipelines bypassing Russia.

What the West wants in the Caspian?

First, the EU announced the imminent start of negotiations with Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on the construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline, which is a significant part of the project Nabucco, designed to pave the way for transportation fuel in the bypass of, limiting Europe's dependence on Russian energoelementov. Trans-Caspian gas pipeline is meant to pave the route: Tengiz (Kazakhstan) — Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan) — Baku (Azerbaijan) — Tbilisi (Georgia) — Erzurum (Turkey). As additional sources of supply of the new pipeline is not ruled out the involvement in the project and the Near East countries.

The next step was the visit of European politicians of the Federal President of Austria Heinz Fischer, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. As a result of this visit, the Turkmen President Berdymukhamedov said his country and the European Union began preparing evidence base for the start of deliveries of Turkmen gas to Europe.

In favor of what the European politicians managed to perfectly handle their own Turkmen and Azerbaijani counterparts, says the fact that Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan have signed a contract for the development of a free trade zone within the CIS, asking to postpone it until the end of the year. Apparently, specifically the end of the year, these countries really determine with whom they co-operate profitable and whose proposals will be more generous.

West doing its best to give the bypass project as much significance is not embarrassed to make the coming provocative suggestions to our allies, trying to invade our exclusive zone or potentially extraordinary impact. Very soft-spoken fact is an October invitation to join the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline Kazakhstan, intensely involved in the integration processes in the territory of the former USSR. This proposal is all the more provocative, that it was made recently signed agreements for the development of one economic space RF, Belarus and Kazakhstan.

But on November 21 it became clear that Kazakhstan will not accept the role in the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline until the time is not yet resolved the legal status of the Caspian Sea, in other words until such time as it becomes clear what all the same, from a legal point of view is the Caspian Sea: sea or a lake. So Makar, Kazakhstan fully synchronized their position on the Caspian Sea to the position of. This step confirms once again allied disposition policy of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation, showing the strengthening of their political unity. West will have to take this all the more often.

EU: the status of the Caspian Sea does not prevent the construction of a gas pipeline

Recall that the problem of the legal status of the Caspian Sea emerged with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the collapse of the regime of the use of the reservoir, established the Soviet-Iranian treaties of 1921 and 1940, signed in the criteria of existence in the region, only 2-countries: the USSR and Iran. Now countries are already 5, each of them will have its own national interests.

With all of this of course, that the EU will not negotiate anything with anyone, and will continue to operate. The official dealer of the European Commissioner for Energy Holzner: "We wish to import gas from Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan directly, because we need this gas pipeline. Address the question of sharing the waters of the Caspian Sea we will not, and in the agreement on this will be nothing said. The pipeline will be laid on the area of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, and the status of the Caspian Sea is not and no one has the right to stop its construction. "

What's Next?

Taking into account the great desire of Europeans to get their hands pipeline that directly to them will flow non-Russian gas, the opportunity for affirmative action to accelerate the construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline is very high. In this case, the growth of military tension in the region will be inevitable. In the looming conflict, of course, the United States would intervene, which in the case of the operation against Iran will have the added benefit of ability to use the region as a staging ground for the beginning of the newest rage. Apart from this, in the case of a campaign of its own to the Caspian states will be able to transfer part of its own military infrastructures from Afghanistan to Turkmenistan.

If tomorrow the war …

then we will have something to counter the enemy. Until 2020, the Caspian Flotilla will inject up to 16 new ships. In addition, from the operational-strategic command "South" Caspians will be transferred to several aviation parts. Recently, the arsenal of the Caspian Flotilla coastal defense systems "Bastion", capable of destroying enemy ships cruise missile "Yakhont", which rises to as much as 300 km. By early 2012 the fleet will receive the first rocket-artillery ship like "Buyan-M" — "Hail Svijazhsk" and three ultra-modern amphibious assault ships. The flagship of the Caspian Flotilla — patrol ship "Tatarstan" carries on board a range of percussion "Uranus" is able to kill at least some enemy targets at ranges of up to 130 km.
