"Rosoboronexport" and China's Ministry of Defence signed a contract to supply an Asian country 123 AL-31FN engines for a total amount of 500 million dollars, the newspaper "Vedomosti". First 13 engines will be delivered to the customer before the end of this year, and one hundred percent of the transfer of power plants will end by 2013. Execution of the contract will Capital Works "Salute".
AL-31FN engines are widely used in the Chinese fighter J-10 and J-11 (a modified copy of the Su-27). China often make purchases Russian power plants, as the engines for combat aircraft, manufactured in the country, are reliable. In 2003, China's Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has received from the motor 54, in 2007 — 100, and in 2009 — 122. Presumably, most of the acquired engines were installed on the export version of the Chinese military aircraft at the request of customers.
At the current time China release for fighter J-10 and J-11, WS-10 engines and derivatives thereof. These engines are copies of the Russian AL-31, but differ from the latter the least traction, reliability and more than a little TBO. Specifically, the WS-10A engines are installed on the layout of Chinese carrier-based fighter J-15 (a copy of the Su-33), and WS-10G — the layout of the fighter-bomber, the fifth-generation J-20.
In addition to the AL-31FN China often buys in Russia engines RD-93 (RD-33 version for Chinese fighter FC-1, delivered to Pakistan under the designation JF-17. In 2010, the Russian company "Sukhoi" and "MiG" claimed by "Rosoboronexport" cessation of supplies to China RD-93 engines. The reason for this was the intention of China to implement the fighters to Egypt FC-1. At the same market wants to go out "MiG" with the MiG-29. Later it became clear that the sale and supply of these engines to China will continue, as FC-1 for its features does not compete with Russian aircraft.
