For a few days earlier Hanoi accused Chinese side that they have chopped cable Vietnamese scientific court. These acts of Chinese sailors sparked protests in Vietnam.

The archipelago in the south-western part of the South China Sea under the title Spratly Islands is a disputed territory between China and Vietnam. Also part of the disputed islands Taiwan Malaylaziya, the Philippines and Brunei. Despite the tiny size of their own, the islands of the archipelago are of fundamental importance from the standpoint of presence in the region.
