The amount of insurance payments due to floods and rains in the south of France can be from 600 to 800 million euros, said on Tuesday AFP referring to the representative of the French Federation of Insurance Companies (FFSA).
In early November, heavy rains led to flooding in the south of France, killing five people, one more unaccounted for.
According to a FFSA, payments related to the Var, Alpes-Maritimes, Hérault, Gard, Bouches-du-Rhone, and, to a lesser extent, the Department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
He noted that, according to preliminary estimates, the average amount of compensation is lower than normal in cases of such incidents, but their number is very significant.
FFSA representative noted that meteorologists and all public services worked at the right level, so in many cases, the damage was prevented in advance by taking the necessary measures.
