Town Krestcy Novgorod province, standing on the highway Moscow — Moscow, was the birthplace of my parents. I always used to come here and even lived for several years. As a child (before the war), I heard from local old scary story — family legend: teacher Sophie Muller was associated with the killer king Grinevitsky Ignatius, more precisely, was his bride. She is disappointed with the revolutionaries, and food poisoning. During her funeral service in the church, in front of all present large chandelier (chandelier) fell on the coffin of the deceased. Everyone in town thought it was a sign of God. Later, as a historian, I decided to check this legend on archival documents.
The tragic fate of the young woman opened my new, unknown page of the book events this alarming time.

Mueller family

At the end of XIX century in the sacrum lived officer Yuri A. Mueller, son of the artist. He read a lot, studied ethnography and even a little in correspondence with FM Dostoevsky. A close friend of his was a local teacher Teternikov Fyodor Kuzmich, who later became a famous poet and writer F. Sologub. Yuri was married and had children, lived with him and his mother. Sister Sophia served in Moscow classy lady Elizabethan Institute for Noble Maidens. Sophia Mueller did not accidentally get into the school. She has experience as a governess, was conscientious, honest, loved her pupils, headmistress valued institution.
Patron Saint Sophia in Moscow was a fine lady Ekaterina Sheremetev Count Bobrinsky mother-in-law, who knew Sofia since childhood.

Oddly enough, this young man in my life was "the devil incarnate." Ignatius Ioahimovich Grinevitsky born in Minsk province in 1856 in an impoverished Polish nobleman. He successfully graduated from high school and the real Bialystok in 1875, he entered the Institute of Technology, St. Petersburg. Everyone knew him as a gentle, modest, affable man with a strong sense of justice. In Ignatius High School was one of the best students, and there was nicknamed Kitten, which then became his underground name. The institute, he joined the revolutionary circle, was one of the organizers of the release of "Working paper," party "going to the people." According to testimony, Grinevitsky not only had mild temper, but he was a Catholic. With barely fit in my head, like a believing Christian can go for the kill. Apparently, he believed that the monarchy in Russia — a great evil, to destroy it all good, and professed self-sacrifice willingly give themselves "into the hands of the devil." What was that? The great ideological confusion or just crazy?

Demons

It is known that the so-FM Dostoyevsky called revolutionary terrorists — think of one of his novels. In his latest work "The Brothers Karamazov," Dostoevsky wanted to continue the theme of "Demons." Alyosha Karamazov, almost sacred, the writer planned to "make" a terrorist, ended his life on the scaffold! Dostoevsky is often called the writer-prophet. Indeed, he not only predicted, but even described the future murderer of King Alyosha Karamazov is very similar to Ignatius GRYNIEWICKI. The writer does not live up to the assassination of Alexander II — he died a month before the tragic event.

Crime and Punishment

On that fateful day, March 1, 1881, the first bomb dropped Nicholas Rysakov, but the king was not injured. He got out of the carriage and spoke to the People, asked his name and rank. At that moment Alexander II I. Grinevitsky ran and threw a bomb between himself and the king. Both were fatally injured. At the hospital, before his death, regicide recovered, but his name is not mentioned. Trotters was unhurt, immediately arrested and questioned by investigators. Fearing a death sentence, the 19-year-old terrorist told everything he knew, including the core issue all the "People's Will". Arrests organizers of the assassination. On the process of "pervomartovtsev" I. Grinevitsky held as Kitty, Elnikov or Mikhail. The real name of the killer king became known only in the Soviet era.

Repentance of Sophia

Soon, a trial was held on the participants attempt, and then was passed harsh judgment. Bride GRYNIEWICKI Sophia experienced it all very seriously. March 29, 1881 she met with her pupils in the hall of the institute and said he supported the idea of the regicides. Frightened and rushed to soothe the affected student favorite teacher, but Sophia pushed them with his hand and said, "Do not come. You are clean, and I — a criminal. " Then she went to the boss of the Institute Princess EA Volkonskaya, fell to his knees and said he did not have the right to educate girls. Boss decided not to compromise its school and called a doctor who recognized Sophia insane. It saved her from questioning the investigators. Such foresight boss is justified — in a year she was promoted. Soon came from Rump brother George and Sophia took her under his wing. In the sacrum, as in the family Mueller, the attitude of society to the killer king was sharply negative.
Because of this, Yuri even changed his name to Muller sacral, and the name — for George. The connection with Sophia Grinevitsky knew only close relatives. They and their descendants kept the secret until 1917.
Unhappy Sophia witnessed the defeat of the party populists and eventually committed suicide. In Novgorod the archives of my friends found a brief entry in the church book Catherine's Cathedral Sacrum Sophia poisoned with arsenic February 19, 1885. She is regarded as mentally ill, so the funeral rite was performed.
At the funeral and burial attended Priest Alexei Uvarov. Sophia Muller buried in the town cemetery. The place is known about her grave.

Meeting after 120 years

In the late summer of 2002, I visited the sacrum. Speaking in the editor at the local newspaper, I said that in the village are still living descendants kind Mueller. The next day came to me Alexei G. sacrum, a man about 40 years old. He is well aware of the family legend, including the fall of a chandelier in the coffin of Sophia. I asked whether to keep the old family photographs, letters and other papers. He said, "All is lost or were selected in 1938, when my grandfather was arrested Aleksandr G. died in Stalin's camps in 1942. Photos he kept in a large album with letters and autographs of famous people. " So my hope is to find the lost original letters of Dostoevsky and Sologub addressed YA Muller.
Alexei G. looked sad and lost. I asked him what was wrong. He said: "The family discord, and with my business disarray." A week later, I learned that he had committed suicide by hanging. What is this? Ancestral curse or just a coincidence?
