The meteorological situation, which led to a powerful overflowing of Kuban, was caused by extreme bad luck synoptic factors considered at the Department of Meteorology and Climatology, Faculty of Geography MSU Pavel Konstantinov.
"We are dealing with unprecedented weather events in the foothills of the Caucasus, and, I repeat, in the driest part of it. Usually strong thunderstorms likely in the eastern part, in Sochi, Tuapse. Gelendzhik and more western areas are dry subtropical" , — said Konstantin, speaking at a news conference at RIA Novosti.
According to him, in Gelendzhik fell slightly less than 300 millimeters of rain — almost six monthly norms for July (one rate corresponds to about 50 millimeters).
"In the complex terrain such heavy rainfall could not lead to such consequences," — said the scientist.
He added that the rain itself — quite commonplace.
"(But) the length and point contact these thunderstorms was extremely unfortunate. Therefore in specific areas has dropped so much precipitation," — said Konstantin.
