June 7, 1494 in the town of Tordesillas (Castile) kings Spain and Portugal was awarded a contract to divide the world. Tordesillas contract is a diplomatic document of great historical significance. The contract laid the base of the colonial powers and the Pyrenean policy clearly defines the principles of the doctrine of the "closed sea" and the exclusive rights Spain and Portugal ownership of all the non-European world. Articles of Tordesillas contract remained a real force until such time as the dominance of Spain and Portugal in a new World, Asia and Africa remained undisputed.
