Earthquake in southern Iran — 4.6 points

MOSCOW, September 18 — RIA Novosti. Earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred on Sunday in the southern part of Iran, the website of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The epicenter of tremors recorded in 03.07 local time (02.37 MSK), located at 79 kilometers south-west of Jahra. The earthquake lies at a depth of 10.2 kilometers.

No casualties or damage were reported.

Iran is among the ten most earthquake-prone regions of the world, there is almost every ten years an earthquake with magnitude greater than 7.0. An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 in the city of Bam, located in Kerman province in December 2003 killed more than 31 thousand people, and about 42 thousand were injured. The ancient city of Bam, and the famous fortress was almost completely destroyed and is still not fully recovered.
