The Writers in Prison Committee on the situation in Belarus

Committee of International PEN, "Writers in Prison" (The Writers in Prison Committee — WiPC) issued a statement, which expressed deep concern about the deterioration of the situation in Belarus and the fate of the journalists, democracy activists and writers, some of whom are members of the Belarusian PEN Center.

The statement noted that they continue to be detained, mistreated, and they risk prosecution. WiPC calls for the immediate release of all journalists and activists who have been detained for exercising their right to freedom of expression, end of politically motivated criminal cases and the full and proper investigation of allegations of the ill-treatment.
