Lithuanian Foreign Minister Azubalis welcomed the readiness of the European Humanities University to learn to accept all students at risk of exclusion from Belarusian universities across political views, the Internet portal Delfi.
Today, during a meeting with the rector of Yerevan State University Anatoli Mikhailov Minister stressed that it is important not only to give the opportunity to learn, but also strive to ensure that the expanded range of disciplines in their native language.
Azubalis said the rector of Yerevan State University, that after election, he personally appealed to the supreme representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton and to the European Commission responsible Commissioner to continue to provide assistance to the university and reiterated the commitment of Lithuania to further support the Yerevan State University.
"Action to support the arrested students, which was organized by the youth of your university immediately after the election, shows civic maturity of students. This shows that the project is to support democracy in Belarus is effective. It helps to try to ensure that civil society in Belarus has evolved and matured, regardless of whether what decisions to take on future EU relations with the official Minsk "- said A.Ažubalis.
During the meeting, the Minister expressed his support for the arrested students and assured full support of the university through the EHU Trust Fund and other projects.
EHU was closed in Belarus in 2004 and in 2005 opened in Lithuania, a Belarusian university in exile.
