On the Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal, belonging to the Indian Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, this morning there was an earthquake of magnitude 5.8. It is reported by IANS news agency referring to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The earthquake lies at a depth of one kilometer to 74 kilometers south-east of the archipelago consisting of 22 islands. No casualties or damage were reported. The threat of a tsunami has not been announced, according to ITAR-TASS.
