In the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) completed endurance testing of the IL-96 — the main wide-body aircraft, the flagship of the domestic aviation. Tests are carried out on the structure of the IL-96-300 for increased mining resource characteristics of the modification of the aircraft — the Il-96-400T, having a design lifetime 20,000 flights.
The works were carried out in several stages. The first step carried out fatigue tests. Scientists at the stand conditions simulated loading conditions to operate the aircraft, confirmed experimentally 2 design resource, ie Resource, founded in design, with two-time reserve. At the next stage, the object was dealt damage is minimal detectable size, and then tested in the third volume of the project resource. It was investigated the development of fatigue damage, from the minimum detectable limit or up to the critical size.
Department of endurance tests TSAGI launched for the final series of works — construction tests for residual strength. Scientists will prove sufficient structural strength in the presence of regulated damage. During this stage, subject to the tests applied injuries regulated maximum operating load — the loads that can singly, or at most a few times over the lifetime of the aircraft to influence its structure. Work began with the construction of loading up to the maximum working load with natural damage occurring after fatigue testing. Next specialists of the Institute will cause damage to the structure of regulated sizes: cut the bottom of the wing at 2 mezhstringernyh distance (about 280 mm) and the damage zone adjacent to the rear spar of the wing of the panel. After that again will make the maximum operating loads.
Prior to this crucial stage of the tests performed design analysis, in which the forecast should be sufficient load-bearing capacity of the structure of the wing with regulated damage. During the tests will be monitored, allowing to detect pre-failure condition in order to prevent the complete destruction of the wing structure.
Full test ensures the continued safe operation of the fleet of the Il-96.
