Azubalis: Lithuania will continue to support civil society in Belarus

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Azubalis at the international conference "Meeting international distributors Belarus" that Lithuania will continue to actively support civil society in Belarus.

"Vilnius is located close to all the other capital of Minsk, and because of this fact in the Belarusian non-governmental organizations and members of civil society an opportunity to settle here and implement various initiatives in the distance. Lithuania consistently supports civil society in Belarus and will no doubt continue do it"- Said Azubalis.

He noted that Lithuania is ready to cooperate with other states for the sake of joint programs for Belarus, to bring together donors and consistently strive for the best results.

He also noted that Lithuania is committed to ensuring that the simplification of the issuance of Schengen visas for Belarusian citizens decided in the EU without delay and to negotiate this issue started in the near future.

The Minister noted that the current in Vilnius European Humanities University is the main focus with the Belarusian youth from Lithuania.

According to Azubalis, support for civil society in Belarus should be more visible and effective. Thus is formed a favorable environment for real democratic change in Belarus and alternatives. Planned resumption of operations established in 2007 the Foundation of Democracy and Development, which will assist the repressed.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, as OSCE chairman said that Belarus should work more closely with the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media.
