In Colombia, the volcano awoke Nevado del Ruiz. This is one of the largest active volcanoes in the world.

Nevado del Ruiz (Spanish Nevado del Ruiz, El Mesa de Herveo) — the highest active volcano in the Andean Volcanic Belt, located within the Northern volcanic zone of the Colombian departments of Caldas and Tolima, 40 km north of the city of Manizales. Nevado del Ruiz is located in the National Park Los Nevados, where there are several volcanoes. The top of the volcano is covered with large glaciers, but they quickly retreat due to global warming.

Nevado del Ruiz — a large stratovolcano composed of multiple layers of andesitic and dacitic lava flows and pyroclastic rocks. He remains active for about two million years.
