Forest burns near Avachinsky volcano in Kamchatka

Forest protection experts are working to extinguish a forest fire at the foot of Avacha volcano in Kamchatka, the regional government said.

"Forest fire on an area of 1.5 hectares near the volcano was reported on Sunday. By Monday, fire area increased to 7.5 hectares," — said in a statement.

In the works of fire fighting involved 15 people and 4 pieces of equipment.

Since the beginning of the fire season in the region reported 22 wildfires. Fire covered 632 hectares of forest and tundra.

Avachinsky volcano is considered one of the "home of volcanoes" Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. It is located 25 kilometers from the city. The last eruption occurred in 1991.
