In Belize, the Mayan pyramid demolished


Construction company demolished one of the largest pyramids in Belize Mayan era for production of crushed stone for road construction.

The head of the Institute of Archaeology of Belize Jaime Awe said that the destruction was observed at the end of last week. He ruled out the possibility of unintentional drift of the structure, since the complex is widely known in the country. Age destroyed the pyramid is estimated at 2300 years.

"These guys knew exactly what was in front of them a cultural monument. Simply incredible ignorance and insensitivity on the part of those who did it," — said Ave. Belize Police said that in fact the destruction of buildings will be investigated and possibly criminal case.
