The number of cases of rabies in animals in the Bryansk region increased

The number of cases of wild and domestic animals with rabies has increased in the Bryansk region in 2010 compared to the previous year by 3.5 times, half of all cases reported in five of the 27 municipalities in the region, told RIA Novosti on Thursday, head of the surveillance Rospotrebnadzor for Bryansk region Zoe Yevseyev.

"For 11 months of 2010 — the most recent data will be until the end of January — Bryansk experts identified in 29 municipalities of 255 laboratory-confirmed cases of rabies in animals, even without continuing through December trend is already a record for the past five years," — explained companion agency.

The most dangerous epidemiological situation in the five districts of the Bryansk: Pochepy, Karachevsky, Klimovsk, Novozybkov and Pogarskaya. Here veterinarians registered half of all cases of rabies in animals, most of which are wild, Yevseyev added. So rabid squirrel bit a two hunters Kletno in district and in the south-west area of the patient bitten by a wolf in a few weeks, 19 local residents.

If you try to build a gradation of animals, the most dangerous in terms of catching rabies from them, the Bryansk list would look like. In the first place, according to Evseeva as before, — foxes and raccoon dogs: they account for three quarters of all noted. Every tenth case of rabies for cats, one in twenty — of dogs and cows, and the last infected by wild counterparts. Most of such cases in rural areas, where houses are close to the forest.

As reported on Thursday, RIA Novosti news service Rospotrebnadzor the Bryansk region, more than 4.3 thousand people sought this year to hospitals in the region with the bites of animals. Just under 300 people complained of being victims of wild fauna.

A significant portion of people bitten, seek medical help, hit by stray dogs. Meanwhile, in the Bryansk region still do not have a state or municipal shelter for homeless animals, where they could be mass-sterilized. Talk about the necessity of building such facilities are maintained in 15 years. Yevseyev believes that the appearance of the shelter almost immediately affect the dramatic decline in the incidence of rabies.

Existed a few years in the Bryansk private shelter "Aegis" was closed last year because of rapidly ending the crisis donations. So while the government opposed the spread of rabies among stray dogs and cats, "old-fashioned" way: catch and kill them, lulling strong poison.

Only in the regional center for this purpose is spent annually 600 thousand rubles, said in Bryansk city administration reported. But while the first 11 months of 2010, special teams of municipal road departments Bryansk regions have caught all 845 dogs.
