Heavy snow hit the Kamchatka Peninsula, declared a storm warning of increased risk of avalanches from the slopes of hills and volcanoes, said on Thursday Russia GUMCHS for Kamchatka region.
"According to meteorologist Kamchatka, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and places in the Elizovsky Milkovsky areas, there is heavy snow. From 18.00 local time (10.00 MSK) rainfall reaches the criteria of adverse events — 10-12 millimeters," — said in a statement.
Due to heavy snowfall Kamchatka avalanche center declared a storm warning of increased risk of avalanches from the slopes of volcanoes and hills. Increased avalanche danger will continue until 6 January inclusive in mountain areas Elizovo, Milkovskiy, Ust-Kamchatsky districts and the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, as well as from volcanoes Viluchinsky, Kozelsky, Koryak, Avachinsky and territories Kronotsky reserve.
Leaders of organizations working in the mountains, it is recommended to take increased security measures, tourists, sportsmen and hunters — to refrain from visiting the avalanche slopes in the period of the storm warning.
