Magnesite Group and "Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant" (CZP) have started project to re-engage in the production (recycling) of zinc-containing dusts electric furnace steelmaking. As stated in the article "Magnezit" outcome will be receiving concentrate (Waelz oxide), with zinc content of not less than 60%, which will be processed in zinc plant to produce zinc metal and metallized pellets for use in blast furnace or electric furnace. The project provides the company "Ural-recycling", created on a parity basis.
In today's world one of the most common and highly efficient technologies for processing of zinc-containing dusts is Waelz in rotary furnaces. In this way, processes up to 80% of the dust. As a result of modernization and technological renovation of production facilities at the Group's production site Satka released rotary kilns, which are now used for the production of refractory materials and are the basic units for the organization Waelz process.
Magnesite Group has the capacity to process up to 200 tons per year of zinc-containing dusts. The project will allow the company to diversify production, load capacity reserve formed in the process of large-scale modernization of production, and create up to 300 new jobs. The project will be partially reconstructed oven, including equipped with modern gas treatment system in accordance with European standards of environmental safety.
The dust separated in the gas-cleaning electric arc furnaces are stored on the industrial sites of enterprises and the volume of accumulated dust significant. According to expert estimates, dusty waste electric furnace steelmaking contain from 7 to 25% zinc oxide, cadmium and other metals. With the introduction of new capacity electric furnace production of dust generation will grow.
High concentrations of iron and steel enterprises in the Urals region is one of the benefits of the project. Recycling of industrial waste will give a further impetus to the development of the resource base of enterprises in the region. Creating new jobs and improving the environment will also have a positive impact on the strengthening of social stability in the South Urals and other industrial regions of Russia.
