Residents of more than 10 million homes in the Australian state of Victoria were last night without electricity due to gale force winds and heavy rains that hit the south-east coast of the country.
Particularly strong element played out in Gippsland, east of Melbourne. There's the wind speed reached 100 kilometers per hour on the flat areas and 150 kilometers per hour — in the foothills. For the past two days in this area has dropped to an average of 200 mm of precipitation. This morning the rain died down, but it is not stopped, the ITAR-TASS news agency.
The Victorian Government announced that it will help people in the affected areas in search of shelter, food and purchase of essential goods.
