BEIJING, Nov. 30 — RIA Novosti, Vasily Kashin. The actual number of people infected with the AIDS virus in China could reach 780,000 by the end of 2011, according to a study by the Ministry of Health of China, the World Health Organization and UNDP.
At present, according to official data, the country has 346,000 registered HIV-infected patients.
Number of AIDS patients, according to the authors of the study is expected to reach 154 thousand by the end of 2011, the Xinhua News Agency reported. It is assumed that for the year 2011 would be infected with HIV, a total of 48,000 people, and the number of deaths from the disease is 28 thousand.
At present, China accounts for about one-fifteenth of the total number of HIV-infected people in the world. The first carrier of the virus was reported in China in 1985. Since then, there were 434,000 HIV carriers and AIDS patients, of whom 88,000 died.
