Maritime scientists advise to catch in 2013 to 1.8 thousand tons of crab more

Scientists Pacific Research Fisheries Centre (TINRO Center) recommended for development in 2013, 34.9 thousand tons of crabs, which is 1.8 tons more than in 2012, told RIA Novosti on Wednesday, spokesman for the center, Konstantin Osipov.

"Following the meeting of the Biological Section of the Academic Council held in TINRO center, experts have established the total allowable catch (TAC) of crabs in 2013 to 34,900 tons, 1,800 tons more than in 2012. Increase ODE allowed two important factors — the achievement of the maximum number of crab fishing in certain subareas and a significant decrease in poaching crab in Far Eastern waters, "- told the agency.

According to him, the main target of the domestic crab fishing are snow crab, they account for over 70% of the total catch. Growth in its population in Primorye subarea in the East Sakhalin subarea increases the TAC for 1800 tonnes compared to the previous year.

"Despite the fact that the volume of imports of Russian crab in the Republic of Korea, Canada, USA, Japan, China and the EU exceed the TAC by 1.8 times, which indicates a rather complex situation with poaching in recent years, the amount of illegal catch crab considerably decreased. A few years ago, and it exceeded the ODE, and the total catch, "- said the source.

He noted that now scientists TINRO Center with Rosrybolovstvo are working with Asia Pacific countries to combat poaching. Certain arrangements have been made with Japan and the Republic of Korea. This was also a reason to increase crab TAC for 2013.
