According to scientists, every two years there is a decline in solar activity, which leads to a decrease in the average global temperature by a few degrees. Thus, the little ice age is dated to the period from 1650 to 1850. It was preceded by a small climatic optimum (approximately X-XIII century) — period of relatively warm weather, mild winters and the absence of severe drought.

Despite these facts, the specialists of the Pulkovo Observatory, St. Petersburg believe that cold snap expected on the planet between 2030 and 2040, will not be as severe as in past times. "There is so far no evidence to suggest that global warming will last until the end of this century," — said in the context, Kotljarov, a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. "The natural protective mechanisms are much more powerful than the human factor," — he added.
