Interview with P. Lall — a famous Indian pilot of the Su-30MKI

With me on the Yelahanka Air Force Base are five more pilots — my subordinates. Here at the show, we're not going to perform any dangerous maneuvers. — Is it easy to the young man to go to flight school to become a military pilot in the Indian Air Force?

— I can not say that simple. Probably difficult. The fact is that those who have to go through the selection of a closer when entering the Air Force Academy. First, the process of selection is for health reasons, and secondly, on the knowledge acquired in secondary school, and, of course, the line corresponds to the summer trade — verified the basic functionality of the incoming needed to control the aircraft. — Well, I would like and that and the other. As for helmet-mounted sight, I think that the introduction of such devices — this is the way the world goes. When I turn my head to the left or right to view from the cabin air space, the presence of NPI will help me to better orient themselves in space. NPI provides greater flexibility in performing maneuvers. At the same time, the NPI must be well designed and executed constructively. Important parameters for the correct selection of the pilot on the NPI, treatment of the displayed information should be made with very high quality. The pilot did not have to restart the "extra" information — it is necessary to give him only the necessary minimum. In this sense, the NPI will not replace HUD. That's why I'd like to see and a good NPI, and a good HUD in the cockpit Super 30.

— However, the helmet-mounted sight — is, as a rule, the extra weight on the pilot's head …

— Yes, you're right — you do not want to "wear" on the head of the extra weight, especially when flying with a large overload. We are used to the Russian protective helmet (ZS). To draw a conclusion about the suitability of a national immunization program, I first have to try it and compare with the ZS. If the weight is comparable to or only slightly more, I will agree to "pay the price" for such an innovation.

— That the Indians expect from the "Russian Knights"?
