The Iraqi government has approved a major deal to buy Russian weapons and military equipment worth a total of 4.2 billion dollars. Pre-signed in October 2012, the agreement will be extended: instead of the previously agreed 36 attack helicopters, Mi-28NE "Night Hunter" Iraq will receive 40 of these machines, the newspaper "Vedomosti". The total amount of the transaction will not change. The contract for the supply of arms and military equipment was signed during a visit to Moscow by Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki. The original version of the agreement provided for delivery of 48 anti-aircraft missile and gun systems, "Armour-C1" and 36 Mi-28NE. The parties also agreed to negotiate the supply to Iraq of MiG-29M/M2 and armored vehicles. Later completion of the deal has stalled because of suspected her of corruption.
