Residents of the village on Sakhalin evacuated because of rising water in the river

A few houses in the village of Sakhalin Gornozavodsk were flooded on Wednesday night by the rise in water level in the river due to heavy rains, rescue workers evacuated 24 people, according to the regional GUMCHS.

According to authorities, homes were flooded because of rising water levels in the river Lopatinka (Nevel area).

"Workers Nevel fire squad and the village administration had evacuated Gornozavodsk 24 people living in flooded homes (according to available information, there are three houses on Mayakovsky Street and three houses down the street utility). All were offered accommodation in a temporary accommodation, launched on the basis of a hostel professional lyceums, but some residents of flooded homes housed with relatives, "- said in a statement.

As at 09.00 local time (02.00 MSK), a decrease in the water level, said agency.

As noted by MOE, Tuesday duty shift rescuers to the 14 municipalities sent an urgent warning of possible disaster. Residents about possible emergencies in the southern and central part of Sakhalin warned through the media.

In August, in the Sakhalin region dominated several rain storms. Storm warnings for heavy rainfall in Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands were declared 10, 13, 16 and 19 August.

August 21 in Dolinsky, Kholmsk, Aniva, Nevel, Korsakov and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk experienced heavy rains (15-29 millimeters).
