Third giraffe died in Krasnoyarsk zoo "Swarms stream" because of pulmonary edema, told reporters on Friday, the chief veterinarian of Krasnoyarsk Sergei Bortko.
The first giraffe — male — died at the zoo on September 26, October 2, died another giraffe — female. The zoo said that the male died due to a congenital liver disease, female — as a result of stress. Third giraffe died on 14 October. Immediately thereafter, the zoo director was removed from his post. Investigation into the cause of death of animals is controlled by the governor.
"Female Fun died from respiratory failure due to pulmonary edema. Could say that all three of the giraffe died because they could not adapt to our environment, as a result they had a stress, and because of that some organs atrophied," — said Bortko.
As head of the city told reporters the Culture Natalya Malashchuk, oversees the zoo, the remaining three giraffes no plans to sell or transfer to other zoos, their health while not serious.
Six giraffes arrived at the zoo in 2007 from South Africa. Animals immediately became popular with the public.
After the death of the first two animal park director assured that giraffes are in excellent conditions. He also expressed the hope that the deaths of giraffes in the zoo do not recur.
Flora and fauna park "Swarms stream" is one of the largest zoos in Russia. Its total area is more than 30 hectares. In 2010, the zoo celebrated its tenth anniversary. Earlier in "swarms creek" was built by one of Russia's largest aquaterrarium total area of 4000 square meters.
