April 12 the situation in Belarus will be considered at a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the European Union.
At the meeting which will be chaired by the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, expected debate on the situation in Libya and the Middle East, the Caucasus and Belarus. The debate on Belarus in the program is scheduled for Tuesday, confirms the head of the office "for a Democratic Belarus" in Brussels Olga Stuzhinskaya:
"She is in the program. But if there is a clear sutuatsyya explosively, depending on what will be a version of events, I think, just a discussion on Belarus to happen. So if there are news worthy of discussion, the discussion will take place."
Political scientist Ales Lahvinets suggested that nyavrad or foreign ministers of the EU countries to notice some progress in Belarus:
"Release on bail arrested a number of people can hardly find a significant shift all know that there is a game mode. However, against the background of this release, we also have the fact of imprisonment of journalist Andrei Poczobut. I mean, I think that the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the EU, can, and will take any steps against the Belarusian authorities, but I do not think it will be the economic sanctions. Anyway, if the decision is, it will be very critical, at least in the wording on the Belarusian authorities. "
Let me remind you that on April 10 Ms Catherine Ashton issued a statement in support of Belarusian journalist Andrew Pochobut, against whom a criminal case. "The European Union strongly condemns the persecution, arrests and intimidation of Belarusian independent media, as well as violations of fundamental human rights such as freedom of expression and the media," — said in a statement, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
