Europe thinks about Belarus

Tomorrow the situation in Belarus will be considered at the meeting of the Political Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the European Union.

To participate in the discussion, attended by representatives of the Belarusian opposition and OSCE experts. Participation in the meeting will also take the PACE rapporteur on Belarus Sinikka Hurskainen.

Hearings are held in Belarus in the framework of the PACE spring session, which began today and will last until April 15.

As BelaPAN, one of the highlights of the session will be "the debate on the religious dimension of intercultural dialogue" in which the parliamentarians will perform the Patriarch of Romania Daniel, President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, Chairman of the Board in matters of religion in Turkey Mehmet Germez, Chief Rabbi of Russia Burley Lazar and Plenipotentiary of the Council evangelistskay Church in Germany and the EU prelate Bernhard Felmberg.

Also at the session held on the death penalty debate in the member countries and observer countries of the Council of Europe, in the debate President of the International Commission against the Death Penalty Federico Mayor Zaragoza.

At a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the EU, which will be held under starshynyavannem EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, expected debate on the situation in Libya and the Middle East, the Caucasus and Belarus. Recall that yesterday, Ms. Ashton issued a statement in support of Belarusian journalist Andrew Pochobut, against whom a criminal case.
