Nextrom company will plant for the production of fiber in Saransk

Nextrom company received an order for the creation of Russia's first plant for the production of optical fiber in Saransk, Republic of Mordovia. Investors in the project are Gazprombank and Rosnano corporation, and the Republic of Mordovia. Total investment in the project will be about 3 billion rubles. This investment will help meet the growing demand for fiber caused by the rapid development of high-speed telecommunications sector in Russia.

In February 2011, in the presence of the President of the Republic of Mordovia Nikolai Merkoushkin contract was signed with Optical Fiber Systems (OER) project partners. The strategic importance of this project for the Russian Federation, the prime minister, Vladimir Putin.

Company Nextrom, which is a supplier of technology, production equipment, infrastructure and support services, is responsible for the implementation of this project, "turnkey". Created by the company should reach its full design capacity over the next three years. It is assumed that in the future a new manufacturing plant in Saransk, Russia will use the latest developments in the field of nanotechnology.

Fiber Optics Research Center, Russian Academy of Sciences has developed a technology resistant to bending optical fiber and photonic crystal fiber (microstructured optical fiber — the newest class of optical fibers, based on the special properties of photonic crystals). In addition, the methods of application of carbon nano-coatings on optical fiber. It is assumed that the technique will be adapted for the production of an optical fiber on an industrial scale.

Work on the implementation of new technologies will be held in parallel with the construction of the plant in Saransk, which will then be mastered industrial production of new types of products using nanotechnology. Through the use of a new progressive coverage can significantly improve the mechanical properties of the optical fiber, in particular the maximum permissible bending operation and longer service life to failure. These characteristics are especially important when using fiber-optic cables in the lines of communication with the dense placement of channels.

An equally important quality of the new coating is a high resistance to hydrogen from the environment, which allows the cable to apply the new coating product in underwater communication lines, as well as chemical and gas installations. Photonic crystal fibers are widely used in the creation of new fiber lasers and amplifiers, fiber endoscopes and sensors, laser scalpels, used in medical, semiconductor and telecommunications industries.

Project Release optical fiber in Russia provides for the organization of production at the new plant of five types of fiber:

multimode optical fiber type G.651, designed for cable area "last mile" and Cables for indoor communication systems;
single-mode fiber type G.652, intended for communication cables are to be laid on the large and medium distances;
single-mode fiber-type non-zero dispersion-shifted G.655, designed for cables installed in systems with long spans, in a signal with a dense wavelength division multiplexing;
optical fiber with a high resistance to bending type G.657, providing low signal attenuation in the cable bends with radii up to 7.5 mm;
micro-and nanostructured fiber-based photonic crystals for use in medical, telecommunications and semiconductor industries.
Serial production of optical fibers will not only provide the Russian factories producing optical cables domestic raw materials, but also provide the ability to export the optical fiber in the other countries of the CIS and far abroad.
