In the spring of 2012, the company Baikalwestcom, part of the holding company Rostelecom, connect the first third-generation base stations, starting on the construction of the new 3G-network technology UMTS HSPA. Currently, a new network was deeply tested and is available for use in the majority of the largest settlements of the Irkutsk region. Total installed 300 base stations. November 23 is the date the network start commercial operation.
Peak speeds when using this technology reach the mark of 21 Mbit s. Working speeds in conditions of high network load vary between 3-5 Mbit s, which makes it comfortable to watch high-definition online, not to mention things like normal web surfing.
"All of our mobile subscribers in the Irkutsk region with the help of 3G and high-speed Internet access will be able to experience a new level of comfort with web surfing, navigation, social networking, viewing video content purchases. Now, all these features are available in any location with a user device — a smartphone, tablet or laptop using the USB-modem "- said Senior Vice President Pavel Zaitsev.
3G network in the Irkutsk region is built using modern technology HSPA +, which provides data transfer speeds up to 21 MB / s, while the first network in Russia 3G network provides speeds up to 3.6 Mb / s. At this point, as explained in "Rostelecom", completed the installation of more than 300 base stations. The network is available in the territory, where 70 percent of the population of the Irkutsk region, the further expansion of the network will take place in the first quarter of next year.
