MOSCOW, Aug. 22 — RIA Novosti.Tropical storm "Irene", which was formed on Saturday in the Atlantic Ocean, the hurricane increased to the first category, according to a report released Monday on the website of the National Hurricane Center in Miami forecast.
According to the center, now a hurricane is located about 40 kilometers west of the administrative center of Puerto Rico, San Juan, and moving to the northwest at a speed of 19 kilometers per hour.
Wind speed at the center of "Irene" is 120 kilometers per hour.
Earlier warnings about the approaching storm were issued for the coast of the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Cuba.
Tropical storms are named when the speed of an accompanying wind reaches 62 miles per hour. Storm becomes a hurricane when wind speed exceeds 119 kilometers per hour. The second category is a hurricane, if the wind speed increases of up to 150 kilometers per hour. The third category receives a hurricane with winds of 178 kilometers per hour, the fourth — of 210. The fifth category is the wind of 250 kilometers per hour.
