6.3 magnitude earthquake occurred on one of the islands of the State of Papua New Guinea6.3 magnitude earthquake occurred on one of the islands of the State of Papua New Guinea, reported Tuesday on the website of U.S. Geological Service (USGS).
Earthquakes have been recorded at 15.05 local time (09.05 MSK). The earthquake lies at a depth of 9.9 kilometers. The epicenter of earthquake was located 100 kilometers south-east of the city on the island of Kimbo New Britain.
Reports of the devastation affected and no tsunami threat.
Papua New Guinea is part of the so-called "Pacific Ring of Fire" (powerful tectonic fault), characterized by high seismic activity.
