Earthquake of magnitude 3.7 occurred on Wednesday morning in the Altai Mountains, injuries or damage, said the Republican MOE.

"According to the information of the Altai-Sayan Branch of Geophysical Survey SB RAS July 20 6.55 (3.55 MSK) in the Kosh-Agach district, 24 kilometers south-east of the village Kurai recorded seismic event in the midst of the power of 3.7-magnitude," — said in a message.

The most devastating in decades earthquake occurred September 27, 2003 in six southern regions of the Altai Republic. At the epicenter of the intensity of tremors reached 8-9, the strength of the main shock — 7.3 magnitude on the Richter scale. After that, the country was marked by a series of new earthquakes smaller force. Tremors have been recorded even in Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk and eastern Kazakhstan.

The greatest damage occurred in the Kosh-Agach, Ulagansky, Shebalinskiy Ongudaisky and districts of the Republic of Altai. There were no casualties (only a few people were slightly injured), but the earthquake caused severe damage to the country, which amounted to more than 1 billion rubles.
