The eruption of Mount Vesuvius, is the most catastrophic and famous of all eruptions. The volcano threw deadly cloud of stones, ash and steam to a height of 30 kilometers, spewing molten lava at a rate of 1.5 million tons per second. Lava flow has been completely wiped off the face of the Earth city of Pompeii, 16 000 of its inhabitants were buried under lava flows.
Centuries later, when in place of Pompeii excavations were conducted, was recovered a huge amount of fossil statues — victims of the eruption. In one place was excavated a group of people gathered together and tried to escape from the lava flows
At this place was once the ancient garden, which is now called the Garden of Captives. Here one finds a fossilized 13 bodies of victims of the terrible eruption
