Lukashenko has burnt a lot of bridges in the relations with the European Union

Why Alexander Lukashenko intentionally goes to the deterioration of relations with the EU, nedyplyamatychna speaking about European politicians? About it — blitz Ales Lahviniec analysis, analyst, one of the leaders of the movement "For Freedom."

Tsigankov: Applications Lukashenko to the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, show that the Belarusian leader while obviously not going to improve relations with the EU. Moreover, it seems that he wants to deliberately aggravate these relations. Why?

Lahvinets: Lukashenka understands that his previous statements and actions, he burned a lot of bridges in the relations with the European Union. And in the near future (and he himself admitted), he had nothing to wait for a positive from the European Union. Therefore, Lukashenko can not afford such statements, which go far beyond the limits of decency in the relations between political leaders, to the head of the European Commission, but also to the President of Ukraine.

Tsigankov: A few days ago, in his annual address to parliament Lukashenko spoke quite differently. He spoke in a rather conciliatory style that relations with the European Union has come a timeout, but he hopes that it will soon be over. How can explain this change in the statements?

We, unfortunately, are still waiting for the verdict as a presidential candidate, has not stopped the flywheel of repression. Therefore, I think that today the Belarusian authorities have little to hope in relations with the West.

Lahvinets: We need to know the whole context of the behavior of this policy is to understand that sometimes it can be improvised and sometimes — things prepared. Obviously, that's what he said in the House of Representatives — prepared text. But, meeting with people in the field, he sometimes gives vent to his views. So I would not be here looking for something too rational. It's just in the style of Alexander Lukashenko.

Tsigankov: If Lukashenko spoke of a "time-out", the comments were made in the sense that it is no longer a time-out, and a complete break. How do you assess the current situation in a relationship?

Lahvinets: If Lukashenko spoke of a "time-out", he obviously took into account the possible deterioration of relations in the near future. After all, we, unfortunately, are still waiting for the verdict as a presidential candidate, has not stopped the flywheel of repression. Therefore, I think that today the Belarusian authorities have little to hope in relations with the West.

Lukashenko has this way of thinking, that Belarus located in the besieged fortress. Although in reality it is only the result of his policies. A representation of Belarus in this fortress, when the country was left alone with the problems that were created Lukashenko — and leads to such statements
