Today, in a partisan district court of Minsk started criminal proceedings against the former presidential candidate Andrei Sannikov, who is accused of organizing mass riots in Minsk on December 19 last year, and four other protesters against unfair presidential election — Ilya Vasilevich, Oleg Hnedchyk, Fedor and Mirzayanava Vladimir Eremenko, who are accused of involvement in the riots. Sannikov faces up to 15 years in prison, and the rest — to 8.
During the first day of the trial took place questioning of defendants and consideration of some of the written materials of the case, including the reports of the inspection area after dispersal of demonstrators who have documented iron rods, firebombs and other such things, allegedly found at the scene.
Andrei Sannikov andFedor Mirzayanav the court did not fully acknowledged his guilt, and the rest — partially recognized. Mr. Sannikov stated that this case has a clearly defined political overtones, but expressed the hope that the court will be guided by the law.
Indications of Andrei Sannikov were the highlight of the first day of the trial. Speaking, it actually was not defending his physical freedom, and their political beliefs. Mr. Sannikov strongly rejected accusations of mythical arson and riots on December 19 of ledaruby and cans of flammable liquid. He acknowledged that urged people to share on December 19, but in a peaceful action, in order to force the government to hold fair elections, in order to show how many people want change.
Sannikov said that he and other opposition candidates, hoping to negotiate with the government, voted for it and the participants of the rally on October Square, is why people come to the Square of Independence:
"I hoped that the government can find courageous people who recognize the crisis situation in the country and will try to resolve it. There was not found ", — told the court Mr Sannikov.
Andrei Sannikov also argued to the court that he and the others tried to stop provocative actions unknowns that broke windows at the Government House, said the unduly harsh crackdown on demonstrators, during which he was severely beaten.
Other defendants today told the court that some of the testimony at the preliminary investigation has been received from them under intense psychological pressure, they were intimidated and did not allow lawyers were forced to testify at the presidential candidates, as if those who were paid for participating in the rally. But from such deals with the investigation young protesters refused, and so were in the dock today.
The mother of Andrei Sannikov Alla followed the process all day long. She says her son acted not as a defendant and as a politician:
"Keep your dignity, does not lend itself to this. Just thin and pale … What can we expect? . "
In the fairness of the trial Alla Sannikov believes:
"Now listen to this nonsense of inspection protocols Square … This is how many cars had to drive back to the Square to scatter what he read. And all attributed it all organized ex-candidates … . "
Father-in-Andrei Sannikov Vladimir Khalip said that since the beginning of the process the judge sought to create the impression of objectivity, but the reading of documents from a spoiled this impression:
"There peralivachyutstsa some vodka bottles, some bottles of" Banakvy "with a piece of cloth … These are the people who created the provocation, they are not revered even primitive benefits that such a Molotov cocktail. And that garbage is credited opposition. It immediately got out the horns of the customer. And one can see that he wants to make these people. Of them want to make the terrorists. "
Vladimir Khalip said that the court does not pay attention to what people are protesting against something — against what they brazenly steal votes.
The human rights activist from the Center for Legal Transformation Alexei Kazlyuk draws attention to the new facts that were presented in court:
"The facts mentioned by the defendants, the pressure on them during the preliminary investigation, it is very important, and the court must take them into account. It's really a very serious violation. And those readings that people give in jail, should be questioned. "
