Between Russia and Germany openly rail-ferry service

June 8 in the German city of Sassnitz in the presence of Chancellor Angela Merkel hosted the opening ceremony of regular ferry route Sassnitz — Ust-Luga.

This is the first direct route between the two countries with the ability to transport trains, including freight cars loaded.

The ferry "St. Petersburg" overcomes lying between the ports of 1,200 miles in 38 hours.

Angela Merkel expressed her satisfaction that the opening of the new ferry service, "It's even closer to our country economically," — she said.

The German rail group Deutsche Bahn Ruediger Grube (Rudiger Grube) said that the winner in the end will remain customers. In addition, the ferry, he said, is a great environmental alternative to road freight.
