Earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred in Tuva

Earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred on Thursday in Tuva, about injuries or damage, according to the Altai-Sayan Branch of the Geophysical Service of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).

Two strong earthquakes occurred in the country on Wednesday evening and night. Their magnitudes were 5.9 and 5.0 respectively. Information on casualties or damage were reported. According to witnesses, the apartments in Kyzyl, the first earthquake was felt strong tremors, the second earthquake tremors were an order of magnitude less.

"An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred in Tuva 06.39 local time (02.39 MSK) on Thursday, its energy class of 11.7", — the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The epicenter of the earthquake was three Kaa-Khem district of the republic. Critical infrastructure are operating normally.

Increased attention to the seismic situation in Tuva due to have taken place in the region a few months ago by two strong earthquakes. The first — a magnitude 6.7 with intensity of 9.8 — occurred Dec. 27, 2011 in the Kaa-Khem district of the republic, 100 kilometers east of Kyzyl at a depth of ten kilometers. Approximately in the same epicenter second earthquake of magnitude 7.6, which occurred in the February 26, 2012. Toll of both earthquakes was not.
