Peru has found unique burial mounds in the shape of animals and constellations.
The inhabitants of ancient Peru transferred Milky Way to Earth, building burial mounds in the form of constellations. On them were priests calendar determined the solstices and advised fishermen and farmers, predicting onset of El Niño.
For more than 150 years of ancient burial mounds in the shape of animals (perhaps the most famous of them — Serpent Mound, or the Serpent Mound in Ohio) have attracted the attention of tourists and scientists. But not so long ago, scientists discovered that the mass graves is very interesting, and in South America. Emeritus Professor of Anthropology at the University of Missouri Robert Benfer discovered intricate animal figures on the coastal plains of Peru (the region traditionally known geoglyphs — the Nazca lines). These giant images, clearly distinguishable only from the plane, represent geometric figures or shapes of animals and well preserved from ancient times through the semi-deserts arid climate.
"Mounds will one day become a tourist attraction. Some of them are aged 4000 years. Compared to them, curly burial mounds in North America (they date from the years 400-1200 AD) seem to be young.
The oldest tombs in Peru were built the same time as the famous Egyptian pyramids "- says Benfer.
He discovered the burial mounds from 5 to 400 m in length in each of the six valleys that he learned in Peru. The hills are likely to have been built very laborious way — with wicker tools. Even in those days, ceramics has not been invented.
Like the Nazca lines (Peru tourist attraction like petroglyphs, including several giant drawings of animals, deposited on land) hills in the shape of animals are best seen from the air. And
find them, if desired, each: on Google Earth maps can be discerned in the form of hills of birds, including the giant condor, five thousand years of dolphin, as well as ducks and a monster resembling a crocodile.
"Finding hills in the shape of animals overturns our understanding of the ancient history of Peru. Moreover, some of the figures show that the people of the Andes knew celestial zodiac "- said Benfer, search results, published in the journal Antiquity.
Several structures resemble zodiac — perhaps people have built them to embody on Earth constellations that they see in the sky. This is supported by the fact that the images are focused on the ground in relation to each other as well as the corresponding stars — in the sky.
For example, in the valley of the condor and images Chiyon krokodilopodobnogo monster oriented along the Milky Way, if you look at them from the temple on a hill nearby. Perhaps the priests led the construction of the hills, which owned the basics of astronomy.
Observations of the heavenly bodies and celestial calendar possession was crucial for the ancient inhabitants of the Americas knowledge: the priests pointed to farmers and fishermen on the seasons and allow them to plan their work.
"For example, it was very important to know what had passed on December 21. If even after this date did not occur signs of warm El Nino, the fishermen could expect another good year, and farmers should not have to fear any floods or drought, "- says Benfer, quoted by the press service of the University of Missouri. El Niño is the variation in temperature of surface water in the equatorial Pacific Ocean and affects the climate and the weather in most parts of Africa, the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, Australia and America.
Prior to that burial mounds in the shape of animals in South America except for a few: they were found in only a few areas of the Andes, but the opening Benfera completely change these views.
"Every field season, I find new pieces. In June and July, I plan to return to Peru and explore more of the valleys, "- said Benfer.
