Residents of the southern and central part of Sakhalin on Tuesday felt tremors up to 3 points, the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Sea of Okhotsk, according to the Emergencies Ministry, the threat of a tsunami has not been announced, told RIA Novosti the seismic "Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk".
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the 7.3 magnitude quake was located 168 kilometers northeast of the city Poronaisk on Sakhalin Island and 273 kilometers from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk — the administrative center of the Sakhalin region. Hearth tremors occur at depths 582 km.
As the representative of seismic "Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk" seismologists recorded tremors on Tuesday, at noon local time.
"The earthquake was registered in 14.1 Sakhalin time (7.01msk). Magnitude quake was 7.3, oschuschaemost — 2 — 3 points. Epicenter was located in the Okhotsk Sea at a depth of 600 kilometers," — told the agency.
He noted that as a result of earthquakes in the houses were swaying chandeliers rattled dishes.
Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, whose apartments and offices are located on the upper floors, took to the street.
According to Defence Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia on the Sakhalin region, tsunami alert was declared, no casualties or damage.
