Today, a judge of the Central District of Gomel Sergei Shitikov rejected appeals 17 community activists to City Council to ban the pickets.
Mass rallies were ordered on February 23 of solidarity with political prisoners who were arrested on December 19 in Minsk. However, the city council does not allow it, citing the fact that the applicants have not concluded agreements with the police, health center and spetsavtopredpriyatiem service pickets.
The representative of the Executive Committee Pauline Lobanov explained to the court that the Executive Committee has the right to authorize or mass protest in the city, so they say, no, he did not break the law.
One of the initiators of the picket, lawyer Leonid Sudalenka, Speaking in court, asked the judge to Shitikova initiate a review by the Constitutional Court for compliance with the Basic Law of the Gomel City Executive Committee decision number 299, according to which the city council requires citizens to enter into contracts with municipal services to service events.
However, the application was rejected on the grounds that the said decision is registered in the National Register of Legal Acts of the Republic of Belarus.
